Choosing A Security Camera
One of the most effective and secure ways to protect your home is by installing
security cameras. Security cameras have the capability to monitor and record a break-in
or attempted break-in to your property. There are many considerations on how to
choose the type of security camera which is most suitable for your needs.
Black and White or Color Security Cameras
You will want to decide if you want a black and white or color security camera.
If you are on a budget then back and white security cameras are more cost effective
than color. Color cameras will obviously show up the detail better than that of
black and white cameras, but its better than no camera at all. However, Black and
white cameras do have a better ability to work in low lighting conditions. Black
and white cameras are a great affordable alternative.
Wireless or Hard-Wired Security Cameras
There are several fundamental differences between wireless and hard wired security
cameras and there are pros and cons to both types of security camera.
By far the easiest to install is the wireless security camera. They can be installed
by most average DIY enthusiasts and there is very little cabling involved, if any
at all. This will save you money on expensive professional installs and give you
the satisfaction that you alone installed it. Wireless cameras are battery powered
so you need to be mindful to change the battery regularly. Interference is not such
a problem these days but could happen. Also, there are no cables for a burglar to
cut which could render the unit inoperable.
Hard wired cameras are more suitable for permanent areas of your property that need
constant surveillance. There are no batteries to replace so they need less maintenance
but a professional install is recommended unless the DIY’er is very capable. Wiring
for both mains power and camera signal will be necessary.
Location of Security Camera
It is important to carefully consider the location of your security cameras to provide
the most effective surveillance for your home. Firstly all entry/exit points need
to be monitored, preferably by high resolution security cameras. This will offer
enhanced quality which will allow the close-up of the faces to be recognised of
anyone entering and leaving your home.
Inside your home, it is recommended that wide angle color security cameras are strategically
placed in all high traffic areas and rooms where your valuables are to be found.
The effective placement of security cameras will allow you to maintain a record
of virtually all of your household activities and you will be able to recognise
and identify anyone by the color of the clothes they are wearing. This information
is extremely valuable in a court of law and will help to provide evidence to convict
the burglar.
